I know i should be getting ready to go to bed right now, but who gives a damn anyway. Just feel like blogging right now. So, Friday was Christine's last day, felt kind of sad actually. I think she's a great person, but i think there's only so much a person can take in a company like this where the manager and some other employees there act like others owe them something. I feel i'll miss her though cuz, she's the 1st person who helped me. The 1st wk when i came in, i was sitting beside her, then Swe Swe gave me this case and asked me to extend the trial balance. I had no idea what to do and so Christine explained to me from head to toe til i understood..lol. That was real nice of her even though she had tons of work to do, she put em all on hold just to explain to me til her mouth went dry..lol.
By Chinese New Year, 5 ppl would have left the company this yr. I wonder how many of those from my lunch group would be left when i leave and i certainly don't hope that i'll be the only 1 left by the time i leave the company in June. The rate of which so many of them are quitting in a short 1.5 mth period is real scary. I really hope Stella won't resign before i go cuz she said that she's probably the next 1 to resign, then that will leave Bao Xian and Eileen who're under WL Wong and i don't think they'll quit anytime soon though.
The D.O.A. DVD is finally out, wasn't really keen on buying the VCD so i waited for the DVD. I bought yesterday, as The Covenant was out also i got it too. Last week i bought Step Up, so i'll have weeks to enjoy watching them over and over again. Even though i felt that The Covenant was only average but i thought it wouldn't get boring watching it over and over again, so i bought it. Yesterday my guitar teacher also got me a metronome (the pendulum version) which cost $55, i think it's still ok cuz Yamaha's selling it for $98 so it was like $40+ cheaper.
Recently a lot of ppl have been asking me how's work, how's working life like and so on and all my answers have all been ok since i was too lazy to go into details. But from what i learnt or at least understand from 5 mths of working and i really think you guys who're still studying should know is that:
- know which group of colleagues to trust is very important
- be alert and know what not to say in the presence of certain ppl who are 'spies' or 'suck ups' to the manager
- don't smoke! Generally you'll know the excuse for smoking is to relieve stress, i just feel that it's a whole load of bullshit. Like for sales, you only promote and sell things and how much stressful can that really be? For office work, it may be a bit more stressful because there's a deadline for everything and if it's a bit rush of course there'll be stress, but is smoking really the answer to stress relieving? I don't think so though, in fact i find it even more stressful. Firstly, if you're a heavy smoker then there's 2 things to stress about - work and when to go out to smoke and that really slows down the time to complete the job or project. Like 1 of my colleague who i think is quite addicted to smoking, if he doesn't smoke once in a while, he'll totally loose concentration as in when you're talking to him abt something, his mind is like somewhere else and sometimes he'll be quite shivery. So i suggest to all those who're already smoking now to quit if not it'll only get worse.
- Finally, what i really learnt in this company is not only knowing how to do the actual things in what i've learnt studying for it, is that of course there're some stress that you'll get in the working world and there's definitely a lot of different types of ppl you'll meet, but what really matters is not the stress you get out of work or what some ppl do that make your life difficult, but other colleagues and friends (which applies to personnal life too) that makes working or in fact living much more easier. That's why i mentioned earlier that knowing and choosing the right group of ppl to mix with is very important.
I think the last point is what really matters the most. I find that i'm truly blessed to be part of this group of colleagues whom i go lunch with almost everyday. There're certainly things that i'm not truly comfortable of satisfied with this company like my pay which i find is a bit too low (it's only $500!) and certain ppl acting in ways that you don't desire them to, but there's always this group of ppl who you trash everything out to and vice versa and their really really nice ppl and since their a whole load more experienced than me, now and then they'll give me advises and i think it really helped a lot and that is really what makes it enjoyable. Certainly, cannot forget about the supervisor - Swe Swe..lol. I think i'm quite lucky to have a supervisor like her cuz she's quite nice, funny, real friendly, helpful (she helped me with my math when i sat for the SAT exam) and she enjoys reading my magazines (she's totally into the Brangelina and gang and the Tom Cruise + Katie Holmes and gang and she hope they'll all break up)..lol. Isn't that fun?
Alright, i think i'll stop here. The more i write on the more nobody wants to read and i think i'm getting kind of too long-winded already.
